Coach Buddy Beam
has devote 40 years of his life to education and to coaching high
school football. Years after leaving coaching high school
football, he was, and now is, addressed as "Coach Beam." To
anyone that played for him, as well as those who know him, he
will always be "Coach Beam."
Coach Beam
went to Rule High School in Knoxville, Tennessee after which he
did a stint in the
US Army near the end of the Korean war. While in the Army
he
played football at Fort Jackson and was a leader on the field.
After serving his country he returned to his education and
continued to play football where he was Captain of the 1957
Maryville College football team.
Beam's
Coaching career started in 1958 where he was a coach at later to
be rival, Powell High School. The next year, in 1959, he began
coaching at Fulton High School where he remained as a defensive
and offensive back coach for 9 years until he retired from
coaching in 1968.
While coaching at
Fulton High School Coach Beam coached such greats as D.D. Lewis,
Ron Widby and Bill Justice. Coach Beam always
carried a clipboard and was a devoted student of the game as
well as one of its brightest teachers. He will always be
respected for his knowledge of football, devotion to the Fulton
Falcons and his dedication to his players.
After coaching
Coach Beam devoted 20 years to education in Knoxville and among
other positions was the Principal of Whittle Springs Junior High
School teacher and assistant Catholic High School..
Now, at 75, Coach
Beam devotes most of his time training Beagles to compete in
field trials in Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and other states.
Buddy Beam has been training Beagles for 35 years.
Coach Beam has
been married to Wilda for 53 years and they have two daughters,
LeaAnne and Stacy, and 5 grandchildren.
