More than a
game, a way of life
For the 1967
Fulton High Falcons and their coaches football was more than
a game, it was about a way of life that would carry far
beyond the football field. The players while given the tools
of the game were given the tools for life. They were
taught to believe they could achieve. That they could
overcome "big hurdles." They were taught team work,
discipline, the value of extra effort and giving 110%, and,
they were taught pride in what they did. Yes, they played
football, and did it with the best, but, they learned more,
much more.
As
one player put it, "We did not know we were poor, but, we
all knew we were not rich." Those Falcons grew up in what
some called the poor side of town. But, they did know were
not afraid to set goals and to dream. They could overcome
the "big hurdles" because they knew that "obstacles are
excuses for failure or the things one overcomes to succeed.
Many became
doctors doctors, lawyers, actors, All-Americans,
businessman, teachers, community leaders, producers and
whatever they set their minds to. Their parents taught them
to survive and their coaches taught them to win. And, many
did win.
This page will
tell where they are now.
